Surfing Selong Belanak
Selong Belanak is a beach break, which makes it the easiest wave on the south coast: no reef, no boat, walk in from the sand. Waves peel left and right along the bay, typically waist to head high, best on a mid tide with a small to moderate swell. When the swell is big it closes out and the crowd moves to Mawi.
For learners
Several surf schools operate from the beach with foam boards from about IDR 350,000 for a lesson. Board hire is IDR 50,000–100,000. Water buffalo walk the beach in the late afternoon, which is exactly as photogenic as it sounds.
