The larger, better-known village on the main road. A resident guide walks you through the lumbung rice barns, the houses with their cow-dung floors and the weaving looms.
Smaller and quieter, five minutes away. Often a stick-fighting (peresean) demonstration and less selling.
Add 45 minutes to visit the weaving village where the finest songket is made.
Finish at Tanjung Aan or Mawun for a swim and lunch, back in Kuta by 2 pm.
The Sasak are Lombok’s indigenous people and these two villages near Rambitan are among the last where families still live in traditional bamboo and thatch houses. A guide is customary and expected (around IDR 50,000–100,000 per group as a donation); they are villagers and the money stays local. Modest dress is appreciated: cover shoulders and knees.
Handwoven ikat and songket are sold in both villages. Prices are negotiable and start around IDR 150,000 for a scarf; the big pieces take weeks to weave and are priced accordingly. Your driver can help you tell machine-made from hand-loomed.
